Hi, My name is Jacqueline Braithwaite FRSA.

I am a retired Head of Design in FE & HE from Berkshire College of Art and Design-specialising in administration, development of design programmes, facilitation and curriculum development and pastoral care for students at all levels of ability.

I'm a highly-skilled professional in the fields of Design Education, The Arts & Disability Accessible Design Research, in addition to which, I'm a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts-FRSA, a body for interdisciplinary social change, a member of The Chartered Society of Designers, South West Federation of Museums & Galleries, Association of Heritage Interpretation, Museum Detox and Museum Association.

I continue this commitment through my work as a Heritage Mixed Media Artist & Fashion illustrator. Using illustration, symbols, textiles, & mixed media, I reinterpret history with a contemporary & culturally aware lens. My practice is rooted in identity, representation, & the belief that heritage must be inclusive—both in whose stories are told and how audiences are invited to engage with them. I regularly present work outside of traditional museum settings to reach communities who may feel excluded from heritage spaces. If people do not feel comfortable entering museums & galleries, I bring the heritage experience directly to them.

As well as exhibiting, my work is held in permanent collections of SS Great Britain Museum, MShed Museum-Bristol, Bath Preservation Trust via the 'Object in Focus' & ‘Our Tower’ Project for Beckford Tower and Fairfield House, and has been exhibited at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, the Arnolfini, and Walcot Chapel Arts Space in Bath. These partnerships reflect my ongoing commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices ensuring that history is experienced as relevant, vibrant, and accessible. I’m a member of Beckford Tower’s Community Advisory Board in Bath and a Community Researcher on Brunel’s SS Great Britain in Bristol.

Alongside my creative practice, I contribute to regional heritage through advisory and governance roles. I serve on the Advisory Board for Beckford Tower in Bath and as a Community Researcher at Brunel’s SS Great Britain. I am also a Trustee and Advisory Board Member for several West Country organisations, including Knowle West Media Centre and Bristol International Jazz & Blues Festival. I am also a member of the Square Club, the longest serving private members club for creatives in Bristol.

Throughout my career, I have supported individuals and communities of all ages and abilities—including those with complex disabilities and SEN—helping them explore lived experience and local history through creativity. I am passionate about sustainability, diversity, social inclusion, and innovative approaches for neurodiverse, sensory-aware, and differently abled audiences. I’m passionate about complex issues about sustainability, diversity & social inclusion through the exploration of creativity and the development of innovative ideas for Neuro-diverse, sensory aware, hidden disability, positively physically & differently abled audiences and their stories.

If you are a company, museum professional, historian, heritage organisation, or individual with a story to share, I would be delighted to connect and collaborate.
